Christmas Shaker Card

Hello and thanks for popping by!

I have been playing with the new Trinket die from Couture Creations. This is one of the dies we have been using in our Christmas card class. So instead of using the pretty baubles I thought I would used the negative to make a shaker card.

Here's how.

First I cut a piece of white cardstock at 4 inches x 6 inches.

I then positioned my baubles on my cardstock and ran it through my big shot.

How pretty are these baubles?  You can pop these aside for another card.  We are going to work with the negative image.

Flip your paper over and adhere some acetate to the whole of the card front.

Place foam tape all around the outline of each cut out.  I found that the strips of Couture Creations mounting foam ideal for this as it is already cut in long thin strips and is perfect for those tight spots.

You will also need to run foam tape around the outside edges of your piece.

Pour some sequins and glitter into the middle of your baubles.

I then cut a piece of glitter cardstock 4.25 inches x 6.25 inches and cover your front piece.  This was a little tricky to line up but I found using my grid lines on my mat really helped.

Your card front is all ready to be attached to your card base!

I am a huge lover of dies and love when you get a die that has multiple uses!  If your interested in this die, I do have some on order and due in a week or so.

Happy crafting ladies!

While the men are away, Jill will play!

Still playing with the Dreamweaver embossing folder mentioned below - I thought I'd share what I did to make the following card:

Step 1 was to make my own core card by swiping the Starlite Silver Brilliance ink pad over a piece of bright green card, and allowing it to dry.

Step 2 - I then embossed the card in my Big Shot - on the 'No Tab' option.
Step 3 - Leaving the layer on the folder for support, I carefully sanded back the raised areas, then coloured the holly berries with the Barn Door marker.

Next step was to cut a ring for my tag using the die set shown.

Finally I cut the tag to shape by hand using scissors, coloured a piece of silver cord with a red alcohol marker, edged the paper (a VERY old one from my stash - daisyd papers) with the silver ink, adhered it to a folded Poinsettia Bazzill card base and mounted the tag. Voila!

More Stock coming ...

I have another order shipping in a few days, and it will include some of the Bird Crazy stamps that are all the rage at the moment - you can see some of their many, many uses HERE

Let me know if I should save a set for you!
The order also includes some Dreamweaver, Sizzix and Taylored Expressions Christmas embossing folders, including these ...

Think Happy Thoughts!

Challenges are a great source of ideas. I had a chance today to play with the Taylored Expressions 'Think Happy Thoughts' stamps and die set to make the following card for a Cas(e) this Sketch challenge. If you are new to the terms, 'case' is short for Copy And Share Everything and CAS is Clean And Simple.

I sponged Kaleidacolor Berry Blaze inks onto each 'happy' and stamped the wording with Versamark ink onto silver foil-board then heat-embossed with Black Sparkle powder.
It LOOKS clean and simple - I won't tell you how long it took to get it right!

As noted in an earlier post we have a couple of these stamp and die sets available - click HERE to see lots more you can do with the set.

New classes and new stock

I (Jill) will be running an "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" card class soon. I'm thinking of using the Memory Box Poinsettia Ribbon die for the class - you will make at least 2 cards. We will play with clear embossing, some ink sprays, and some stamping. Keep an eye on the blog and on our Facebook page for more information. Here is one of the cards I think I'll use:

I have also received a sizeable order of new stock including a range of Memory Box dies and some stamps. If you didn't see these on Monday night, the stock will be on display in the shop this Saturday Sept 5th 10:00 am-2:00 pm. If you miss out or there are any Memory Box dies you 'need' please ask me.

If you came to the last Social Capers night, I have added new Kaleidoscope embossing powder to the butterflies on on of the cards I made from the demonstration. The powder is fabulous for butterfly and dragonfly wings, as well as for flowers and flourishes:

What's black and white and red all over?

Probably showing my age here - joke from (primary) school days. No - it's not a sunburned zebra ... it's Jill's next card class.
The final cards are still a work-in-progress - I have to see if I can source some of the papers I've chosen, but here is a sneak peek. I will use at least two of the ideas pictured and hope to do three cards in the class.
The class kit will include this stamp from Stamp-It:
Here are the cropped card pics:

Class dates will be announced as soon as I've sourced the paper I want.

Playing with Swing Cards

I've been having fun putting together some (fairly) quick and easy cards using the techniques I'll be teaching this weekend.
I will have a few kits available if people want to replicate them.
